Karen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a Minor in Psychology from the University of Iowa. Karen began working as a Project Assistant in the Center for Public Health Statistics in the College of Public Health in 2002. She later was promoted to Program Assistant and to her current position of Health Records Analyst.
Karen is responsible for providing developmental and administrative expertise and management for research and service programs within the Statistics/Analytics Core of the IPHPRP. Her main responsibilities have been to plan and manage the data collection and retention systems for Iowa’s Care for Yourself Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program and the Iowa Get Screened Colorectal Screening Program in conjunction with Iowa HHS and the CDC. She is responsible for monitoring and maintaining program databases and data quality, creating and updating data collection forms, data reports, data processes, and database structure as well as specifications for the web-based data entry systems. Karen is the liaison with statewide program coordinators, agencies, biostatisticians, and application developers. She assists the coordinators and agencies in resolving data issues, provides guidance on processes and procedures, and conducts training sessions on the web-based data entry systems.
Karen served on the College of Public Health Staff Council and has served as Secretary on the Council.
