Global Health Case Competition

Graduate and undergraduate students from across the University of Iowa campus are encouraged to participate in this unique professional experience. 

The IIPHRP Global Health Case Competition hosts one interdisciplinary competition each year. Students from all UI colleges and departments are encouraged to participate. The top 3 teams will receive cash prizes up to $500 per person, with the grand prize being a chance to implement your intervention with a company working in health services overseas.

Competition Date: Monday, April 1, 2024.
Registration Deadline: Monday, February 18, 2024.

NEW GRAND PRIZE ANNOUNCED FOR SPRING 2024!

The 1st place team will be awarded the chance to work with a local business in the location of the case study, implementing your proposed intervention. Develop your professional skills and expand your professional network worldwide! The top 3 teams will continue to receive cash prizes, as much as $500 per person ($2500 to the first place team.)

2024 Case Topic

Sustainable Communities, Nutrition, and Resource Management in the Global South. 

This year’s case topic details will be announced on February 28, 2024. Case studies are released after student teams have committed to the competition to ensure each team has diverse disciplines represented and interventions are creative and varied in their approaches.

About the Competition

The Case Competition offers an innovative student learning experience that trains future public health leaders. This competition brings together students from multiple disciplines in a format uncommon at most universities and colleges. Through the friendly competition, students creatively address critical global health challenges in a competitive and collaborative environment that simulates future workplace settings by requiring a multidisciplinary team composition.

Contest Rules

The aim of the Global Public Health Case Competition is to train the next generation of leaders through a unique competition experience built upon a real‐world challenge. All students at the University of Iowa are eligible to compete. Teams are made up of 3 to 5 students from across the university, applying their specific knowledge to tackle complex global issues. Effective teams will learn to leverage the unique skills and knowledge of each team member and discipline represented.

The case competition is made possible due to efforts by the Institute for Public Health Practice, Research and Policy (IPHPRP), the Global Public Health Initiative, and the College of Public Health Research Office.
