Jennifer Sukalski is an Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, a Dental Public Health professional, and a registered dental hygienist who provides care to underserved populations. Her research focuses on improving access to care and healthcare quality within the U.S. oral healthcare system, particularly for populations with significant barriers, investigating workforce, insurance, and delivery system factors.

Dr. Sukalski is a member of Iowa’s Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN). She collaborates with Dr. Askelson on research aimed at implementing evidence-based interventions to enhance access to oral cancer prevention services. This includes developing an intervention to train dental providers to recommend the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to adolescent patients. Dr. Sukalski is currently the Principal Investigator on a Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust grant exploring the feasibility of implementing this intervention in private dental practices and is expanding this work with the CPCRN to assess sustainability of this intervention in rural Iowa.
