It is becoming increasingly difficult to figure out the best and most respectful ways to refer to people with disabilities as language, perceptions, and social norms are changing. Even the term “disability” is not universally accepted. This style guide developed by the National Center on Disability and Journalism at Arizona State University frames the context of these language choices and defines dozens of terms commonly used when referring to disability.
