Emerging adulthood is a critical period for determining the trajectory of individuals’ long-term health and wellbeing. However, some young adults become disconnected from opportunities for education or employment due to difficult circumstances, which threatens their health. This disconnect reinforces existing disadvantages that vulnerable communities already face. This American Public Health Association report describes the unique scenarios that our nation’s youth are facing that put their futures and health at risk, as well as strategies that can be implemented at the local, state, and national levels to improve outcomes in this population.
