In 2017 the Steve Fund, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization devoted to the mental health and emotional well-being of young people of color and The Jed Foundation (JED), a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for teens and young adults, developed the Equity in Mental Health Framework (EMHF) to help colleges and universities support and enhance the mental health of students of color. While the resource was primarily designed to support college/university administrators and providers, it can be of use to students, families and communities.
The Framework PDF describes why college students of color face barriers to mental health and outlines 10 recommendations for universities to implement to address this issue. View the Equity in Mental Health Framework below:
Additionally, the Equity in Mental Health Framework Toolkit expands on the framework and provides recommendations and strategies to support administrators, decision-makers, providers, and students in their campus-based efforts to reduce mental illness stigma, increase support and proactive responsiveness, improve campus climate, and provide system-wide opportunities to help all students to thrive.
