View the fourteenth installment of the Building Health Equity webinar series, Natural Disasters and Equity. We featured Bonnie Rubin, University of Iowa College of Public Health Strike Force, and Carrie Walker, Director of Learning at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation. This was a live session on October 11, 2023.

We discussed current issues related to natural disasters and their connection to public health and health equity, ways to mitigate health disparities after natural disasters, and strategies that health departments can take to prepare for and respond to natural disasters through health equity lens. The session included open conversation with attendees.

Objectives: 

  1. Discuss the most pressing issues related to natural disasters and equity in Iowa.
  2. Learn about the connection between natural disasters and health equity.
  3. Explore strategies to prepare for and respond to natural disasters through health equity lens.
