View the twentieth installment of the Building Health Equity webinar series, Changing the Narrative around Health Equity hosted by the Institute for Public Health Practice, Research, and Policy at the University of Iowa College of Public Health, in partnership with the Midwestern Public Health Training Center, and the University of Iowa Prevention Research Center for Rural Health. We featured Kirsten (Kiki) Lezama, Director of Public Health Workforce Infrastructure at the City of Milwaukee Health Department, and Susan Vileta, Public Health Educator at the Johnson County Public Health.

We discussed the role of dominant narratives in shaping health equity, identified strategies for building transformative narratives, and explored collaborative efforts and partnerships that can help sustain narrative changes toward more equitable health outcomes for all communities.

Objectives:

  1. Explain how dominant public narratives contribute to health disparities and explore ways to shift these narratives to promote more equitable health outcomes
  2. Apply effective approaches for creating transformative narratives that support health equity and challenge systemic oppression
  3. Discuss the importance of cross-sector partnerships in sustaining narrative changes that advance health equity in communities
