2020 Learning Collaborative
On Aug. 5, the Iowa Institute of Public Health Research and Policy and the Iowa Department of Public Health hosted its fourth annual learning collaborative on childhood lead poisoning prevention to advance lead poisoning prevention through collective impact. The purpose of this learning collaborative was to highlight programs and services throughout Iowa that have been successful in implementing strategies for preventing childhood lead poisoning. The goal was to bring together all partners that are working toward eliminating lead poisoning in Iowa.

Brenda Music
Parent Advocate, Founder of Iowa Parents Against Lead Poisoning
Brenda Music is the mother of a seriously lead poisoned child and joins us today to share her
story and her experiences over the past 17 years and her son’s lifelong legacy of dealing with
lasting effects of lead poisoning. Brenda Music’s story is similar to other families who encounter
childhood lead poisoning, but unlike other families, the Music’s made it their mission to
advocate for more lead poisoning prevention funding and to provide a support network for
families looking for answers.
